In our offices, there are many pieces of equipment subject to asset management such as electronic devices including PCs, printers and projectors, as well as fixtures and furniture including chairs and desks.
Although assets are managed with management records at many companies, manual check takes time and may cause oversight. Also, if you lose track of an item when it moves or its keeper changes, etc., it takes time to locate it and the lost item may cause information leak.
YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory has developed an equipment management system to solve these problems and created "u-Item," an equipment management ASP service using ucode.
u-Item is an ASP service to manage items and assets in an organization by using ucodes to identify items and manage their locations. Equipment management can be simply conducted just by creating labels, attaching them to items, and registering information on the items.
u-Item has the following features. Firstly, it uses ucodes as item numbers. Therefore, the same item label can still be used when the location of the item changes. Secondly, u-Item can display item information on a mobile phone as it can use ucodeQR for item labels.
Thirdly, with u-Item, access control can be set to registered information. As we can set up the information so that only the contact address of the owner is disclosed when an item is lost, a person outside the company can refer to the contact address and return it to your company. Lastly, since u-Item is an ASP service, it can be easily used without the hassle to deploy a new system. Individuals, mom-and-pop shops, university laboratories, etc. which have not implemented equipment management systems before can now use u-Item.
