YRP Ubiquitous Networking Loboratory (UNL), headed by Dr. Ken Sakamura (Professor of the University of Tokyo), has been established with the aim of realizing a ubiquitous computing environment in addition to building an IT infrastructure so that the ubiquitous computing will be used widely in the society.
YRP UNL, one of the most advanced R&D companies in ubiquitous computing, is leading the world's research in this field. YRP UNL is carrying out development on various technologies as follows:
- T-Kernel, an embedded real-time OS
- ucode and ucR (ucode Relation) which are ubiquitous infrastructure technologies
- RFIDs
- active tags
- wireless technologies including UWB (Ultra Wide Band)
- ubiquitous communicators which are small terminals
- ubiquitous location information systems, etc.
Technology, thus developed, is being deployed in business through the Ubiquitous Computing Technology Corporation. Joint research and development are also being conducted in Asia, e.g., in China, Korea, and Taiwan, as well as in Europe and North America. Furthermore, it has taken part in international standardization activities at ITU-T, ISO, IEC and IEEE. At TRONSHOW2010, we introduce the technology which YRP UNL has developed and the collaborative projects it has undertaken with its partners.
At TRONSHOW2010, we show the results of the following research and development at the leading edge of ubiquitous computing: the Automatic Proximity Detection System using UWB Active Tag II, the Ubiquitous Location-aware Service application utilizing Ubiquitous Communicator and Ubiquitous ID Technology, etc. Some exhibits use live demonstrations.
YRP UNL has participated in many projects to establish the social infrastructure of ubiquitous computing. At TRONSHOW2010, we introduce the following projects which are underway in the current fiscal year.
- Ubiquitous Space - information Technology Infrastructure Project*1)
- Approaching Vehicle Alert System Project*2)
- Ubiquitous Communicator Project*3)
- e-Space Platform Project*4)
- International Standardization Project*5)
