The next-generation MCU created to support embedded devices of the future
The RX family, the fruit of Renesas' all-out efforts.
RX stands for “Renesas eXtreme” and designates a product combining outstanding performance and superb ease of use.
The “X” in the RX Family stands for eXtreme, and embodies Renesas’ dedication to the MCU market.
It has been six years since the establishment of Renesas. In past years, we have thoroughly investigated both the merits and shortcomings of our existing 16 and 32-bit middle-range MCU products (the H8S/H8SX and M16C/R32C Families). The RX Family was born as the result of six years of studying most desirable MCU.
The RX Family has adopted new technologies based on Renesas’ accumulated know-how that will respond to our customers’ present and future needs, to ensure “higher performance”, “greater code efficiency”, “lower power consumption”, and “more integration” while retaining “compatibility with existing products”. The RX Family is an MCU family Renesas proudly recommends as the world standard of the next-generation mid-range products.

Integrated development environment and excellent migration support
Software development is supported by Renesas’ integrated development environment called High-performance Embedded Workshop, together with the C compiler, a real-time operating system (RTOS), three emulators and other development tools. The compiler facilitates program migration from existing C programs for the CPU to effectively protect customers’ development assets and their utilization into the future.
RI600/4 Real-time OS for RX600 Series
This product is a RTOS conforming to the μITRON 4.0-specification, the predominant RTOS for embedded systems in Japan. Its compact resources, outstanding real-time features, and many service calls are suited for an embedded system with real-time ability and multi-tasking functions.
