Greetings

Since the start of the TRON project in 1984, we have been making efforts towards the realization of “Computers Everywhere” - ubiquitous computing environments. With cooperation from many people and organizations of industry, government, and academia, our efforts are now gaining world recognition. Furthermore, regarding the T-Engine Project, which is the infrastructure for the development of ubiquitous computing, many results including boards, operating systems, middleware, development environments, and appliances have been achieved. A number of feasibility study experiments using the ubiquitous ID technology have steadily been advancing, and the ubiquitous ID technology began to be introduced into various areas. Now we have finally entered the stage where “Computers Everywhere” will become a reality.

As we continue this project, the TRON Project Symposium is held every year in order to introduce our activities to many people. The “TRONSHOW 2008,” held in last December, achieved great success with many sponsors and exhibitors participating. In addition, many VIPs including ministers and vice-ministers from home and abroad observed the show, which means this show has drawn increasing attentions, and I have felt growing expectations for the TRON Project.

The 25th TRON Symposium, “TRONSHOW 2009,” will be held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo, a site different from the previous years, from December 10 to 12.

At this year's symposium, the various approaches for the construction of the ubiquitous computing environment will be the main theme, and various achievements of the TRON Project are introduced. The annual Enableware Symposium, “TEPS2009,” will be also held to provide an opportunity to consider supporting the disabled with computers.

We hope you support this symposium, provide sponsorship for, and enjoy being involved in this symposium, which I am sure you will agree is for an extremely worthwhile cause.

Ken Sakamura
Chairman, TRON Project Symposium Steering Committee
Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University of Tokyo
Chairman, T-Engine Forum

Basic Concept

T-Engine Project [Next Generation Real-Time System Technology Exhibition]

  • An open and real-time system standards development environment aimed at building ubiquitous computing environments where every object has a computer incorporated in it and is connected to a network will be introduced.
  • All information on T-Engine that is most suitable for developing so-called embedded systems, such as mobile information devices and network-connected home appliances efficiently and quickly will be introduced.

Ubiquitous ID Technology [Ubiquitous Computing Symposium]

  • The “Ubiquitous Computer” is finally becoming a reality. The aim is to establish basic technology that permits the automatic identification of “objects,” “locations,” and “contexts” in order to realize ubiquitous computing environments. At the TRONSHOW, you will experience the achievements of various feasibility study experiments.
